Space Derby

We're finally WINNERS!

Every time there is a pinewood or space derby or a raingutter regata, we always forewarn Hayden and Alex that the event is about working on a project with their dad and being proud of what they created and NOT about winning the race.  We never win, so we make sure to prep the boys ahead of time.

Well this year at the Space Derby, the Reid's broke their losing streak!  Heat after heat, the both Hayden and Alex kept winning!  When it got down to the 2nd to last heat, we realized that they both had a chance at coming in 1st place!  Unfortunately, during that heat, Hayden's plastic piece that attached his rocket to the wire broke when the leader was unable to catch it at the end of the race and it hit the floor.  Bummer!  So, I quickly drove home, got some super glue and tried to fix it.  The piece "hung" on long enough for Hayden to finish his last race.  Alex won and Hayden came in 2nd (it would have been first if not for the break, Hayden's rocket was consistently faster than Alex's).

The boys were both so happy to win with each other.  They both wore their pins to school the rest of the week.  Alex even wore his on his PJs at night!

The FINALS!  This race decided the rank of the top 3 racers.  Dave held onto Hayden's as long as possible because were were afraid the glue wouldn't hold.

The boys were so excited to receive their 1st and 2nd place awards!

The boys were proud of each others' accomplishments.  I loved that they cheered each other on until the end and then congratulated each other!
